Managers getting woken up in the middle of the night & driving to their stores due to false store alarms are becoming obsolete. Many businesses are taking advantage of mobile apps these days for their smartphones & other mobile devices. Remote access to digital video recorders (DVRs) isn't anything new, just easier to obtain.
DVR makers are offering more ways than ever before to get these mobile apps, sometimes at no charge through the appropriate online app store. Apps differ considerably in their capabilities. For example, some DVRs only allow live streaming, while others have the ability to control other DVR functions. Camera images also differ. Some allow for up to 16 images and others may have fewer. Other functionalities include audio capability, pan-tilt-zoom functionality, etc.
Mobile device apps are clearly becoming important for businesses and DVR manufacturers and this will most likely only continue. "It's a niche market and customers that have these apps are happy with them," stated Samsung's Carlos Montesdeoca.
