The Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC) conducted a recent study that shows retailers are migrating to IP video solutions at a very rapid pace. This report which was conducted by Axis Communications showed that out of 47 retailers, national and regional that 64% had some form of IP video system installed. This number has doubled since 2010 during a similar study.
Other findings include:
- Stores that currently use analog systems, 43% said they had a plan to migrate over to an IP video system.
- Only 38.5% of respondents with an IP video system said they have access to live video via a mobile device. However, 87.5 said they would find this capability useful.
- Of those that use IP for more than just loss prevention, 93% reported they had seen a positive impact on operation and 40% saw a positive impact on merchandising.
Research shows many factors that have contributed to the increase. The technology is more reliable and affordable. With enhanced capabilities and improved image resolution, it's believed the increased migration will only continue.
