After the announcement that "backscatter" x-ray body scanners will be banned, airports will have to look harder for alternative security measures.
Earlier this year, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), demonstrated its vision for the "checkpoint of the future" - which consisted of x-ray machines, eye-scanners, neon-lit tunnels and metal and liquid detectors.
No longer will passengers fit the "one size fits all screening," but will be given a "travel profile" and ushered into one of three corridors. Although these methods are still being tested, the IATA is hoping to have these checkpoints installed within the next 5-7 years.
Here are a few of the new security measure concepts being tested currently:
- Thermal lie-detection
- Bluetooth passenger tracking
- "Super clone sniffer dogs"
- Behavioral detection officers
