According to a recent report from IMS Research, the need for chargeable, higher-end applications will push the market for video analytics to nearly $600 million in 2015.
Motion detector and camera tamper features, which are embedded into surveillance devices and offered free by manufacturers, will be joined by applications for more sophisticated video content analysis (VCA).
IMS researcher, Jon Cropley states "higher-end analytics will mirror the needs of society and advances in surveillance technology. Some applications will include people counting, identifying customer traffic patterns, assessing customer dwell times at different areas of the shop, and analyzing the length of queue lines.
Cropley also states that even though the field will remain steady, the industry still faces hurdles. These include how surveillance devices are currently being used and the cost of bringing new applications online.
