The 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be the first time that the Russian Federation will have hosted the Winter Games. While everyone was initially excited, recent threats have changed that. At least five European countries' Olympic committees received letters in Russian making a "terrorist threat" before the Sochi Games, but after reviewing them it is believed that they pose no real threat. The letters to committees in Italy, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia were not brushed off as easily and they are now concerned about the security at the event.
The Law Enforcement Agencies of the Russian Federation, having studied the situation in the sphere of security, have identified the most threatening factors. They then determine the priority measures to neutralize these threats and timely prevent manifestations of instability, both, in the area where the Olympic competitions will be held, and in the country as a whole. The Olympic Games in Sochi will be protected by fighting robots “Plastun”, designed for patrol and rapid detection of suspicious objects and people as well as drones and reconnaissance systems for surveillance.
