With the opening ceremony just a few hours away, security is beefing up with about 8,200 men and women who were assigned the task.
Almost 3 weeks ago, this was not the case. The security company G4S had promised to deliver 10K security staff when a $440 million contract was signed. The Wall Street Journal said G4S had interviewed more than 50K candidates and received 100K applicants.
According to the Guardian, interviewers were allowed to take the same multiple-choice tests several times, even if they failed, and discuss the answers with other candidates. The Government stepped in a few weeks ago and added more troops, which has brought it up to 8700 qualified men and women.
In early July, G4S had only hired 4K people in a country with an 8.4% unemployment rate. The company said it was a scheduling system error that caused the problem. For more on this story, click HERE.
